With only 3,156 bottles produced, the Pfitscher 2019 Alto Adige Sauvignon Blanc Riserva Mathias is a smooth, mid-weight expression with plenty of aromatic definition and depth. The bouquet opens to preserved lemon, passion fruit, mature apricot and cantaloupe. Generally speaking, the fruit definition of the wine veers toward orchard fruits and softly mature tones, coming from a late-October harvest that the winemaker carefully points out saw mornings of about 40 degrees Fahrenheit and afternoons approaching 80 degrees. The wine's extra texture sets it up for a pairing with white meat or game hen.
